About the project

Another database driven site showcasing events and venues. But this time around in the city of Sacramento, USA. The site is powered by the Zend Framework v1.9 – awesome release. Makes bootstrapping so easy with the Zend_Application component. For development the following were my arsenals: JQUERY, PHP 5 & MySQL. Google Maps was used for both venue and event directions with markers pointing to the exact location of the venue/event – geocoding. I used Google Geocoding service to dynamically obtain the long/lat of each venue on the fly and plotted its location on the map with markers.

The site design was by George and the coding was outsourced to me. It gave me the opportunity to do some coding with GoogleMaps/Geocoding

A wordpress blog reworked for one of Main Event’s photographers: Sivan Miller. The original template design was from Graph Paper Press, redesigned by George and I coded the design.

The objective was to have a simple site that showcases Sivan’s myraid photographs. As well as one he could update himself – hence wordpress.

About the project

Main Event is a site George (http://www.georgesabev.com), Chris and I developed to showcase the most exclusive and exciting events and venues in Cape Town. We worked tirelessly on this project as a team and feel so proud to have it live.

George was the designer – he and Chris drafted designs upon designs before a final crack was reached. I was responsible for the coding of the site both frontend and backend, the database design of the site, as well as developing a content management system for the site.

The dyanamic flash header was developed by Wayne Langman – Freelancer

Main Event Phase I was lauched on the 23rd of March 2009 after two years of consistent crafting of both its design,  its features and core functionalities.

At the moment we are busy developing Phase 2 and will introduce new and cool features as well as implementing Search Optimisation Practices.

Some features on this site are:

• A Dynamic flash header showcasing some events and venues set to featured.
• Members Registration  with features such as : adding event to profile and adding venues to profile – Phase 2 will introduce more member features.
• Search events/venues/galleries based on area
• AJAX gallery view
• Invite a friend tool
• Featured Photographer of the month
• Venue details of each venue showcased: contact information, location, map, galleries etc
• Event details of each event showcased: rsvp person where applicable, price per person where applicatable, type of event: onceoff or reocurring, date of event and time.

About the project

Touching Nations is a Non-Profit Organization, that strives to ensure the provision of intervention projects and programmes that will meet the needs of impoverished and socially challenged communities.

This is one of those sites i was very delighted to work on. Firstly the client was very understanding, and secondly I able to apply both my design and programming skills to the project – always tickles my fancy!

The following are the features on this site:

• An annoucement block – where the client can post quick info or updates on organisational developments
• An AJAX gallery showcase of events and awards
• An AJAX enabled Messaging form where visitors can send quick messages to the COH offices
• PDF and MsWord downloads of organisation’s policies, audit reports etc

About the project

Virtual Project Consulting is a website powered by Wordpress, where entrepreneurs and business owners can get expert advice on managing their business projects.

I was approached by Linky van der Merwe (owner and founder of Virtual Private Consulting) with a desperate need to have her blog set up in order to sell her consultancy services online.  She had two cases of two different individuals promising to help her set it up, but they both left her blogless at the end of the day. One was totally against Wordpress. The other had this ‘dead’ and incomplete theme installed for her. What a mess!

The first thing i told her when we meet was to get rid of that horrible theme she had on her site.  No one would buy products from a site like that looks like that.

It took a bit of convincing to assure that I wasn’t going to NOT deliver on the task. I totally understood where she was coming from.

One of the core needs for her was getting the right theme to brand her business online. After hours of research, I found an excellent WP theme by Design Disease. It was just the perfect theme. It had all the features she wanted:

1. Must have a blue theme – because she loves blue
2. Must be a 2-column layout – she wanted this for SEO reasons
3. Must have the capacity of showing her 2 products and selling them online.
4. Strategically place the affiliate links she has purchased on this blog

At the end of the day she was sorted and all her requirements where met.

Update:

Linky approached me that she needs to sell some of her consulting products online and has an account with Setcom. So I am currently working on credit card payment integration for her with Setcom.
